Definition and concepts |
Main budget estimates, authorities used in the current year (expenditures as per the Public Accounts). The indicator measures the extent to which aggregate budget expenditure outturn reflects the amount originally approved, as defined in government budget documentation and fiscal reports. This indicator is part of Pillar I of PEFA performance which measures budget reliability. |
Comment and limitations |
Actual expenditure outturns can significantly deviate from the originally approved budget for reasons unrelated to the accuracy of forecasts, for example, as a result of a major macroeconomic shock.

Method of computation |
Data are from the Treasury Board Secretariat. Click on the latest ‘Public Accounts of Canada’, then select ‘Volume II: Details of Expenses and Revenues’. From there, select the section ‘Summary tables and Appendices’ and click on ‘Table 5 — Source and disposition of budgetary authorities by ministry’.
