Indicator 9.4.1: CO2 emission per unit of value added
Definition and concepts

This indicator measures the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity relative to Canada’s economic activity. A decreasing trend would mean that less GHG emissions are emitted for one unit of GDP.

The data are presented in megatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (Mt CO2 eq.) per billion dollars of gross domestic product (GDP).
Comment and limitations

This is a proxy indicator. Greenhouse gas emissions per unit of GDP are calculated using real inflation-adjusted GDP values expressed in Canadian dollars at constant 2017 prices, whereas the UN Global metadata specifies the use of constant US dollars.
