Global Indicator Framework (GIF) for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Introduction
As of December 31, 2025, there was 251 indicators in the GIF and progress has been assessed for 132 (53%) of them. These are divided into five progress categories, ranging from “Deterioration” to “Target Achieved” (for more information regarding the progress categories, please refer to the Progress Measurement Methodology section).
Figure 1 provides a visual summary of Canada’s progress since 2015, broken down by goal. For each goal, circles of different sizes indicate the number of indicators classified into each progress category.
Summary
As of December 31, 2025,
- 19% of the indicators in the Global Indicator Framework for which progress has been tracked had achieved their targets.
- 25% were on track to meet them by their deadlines.
- For 11% of the indicators, progress has been made but an acceleration is needed.
- 20% showed limited progress.
- 26% showed deterioration in progress.1
